It's now less than 48 hours to Cookie Baking Day!

In Nashville, we'll be making:

- Snowballs

- Gingerbread cookies

- Sugar cookie cutouts

- Thumbprints

- Peanut butter blossoms

- Chocolate chip cookies with nuts (just enough batter to hold the chocolate chips and nuts together)

- Mint krinkles (This will be the first time we've made them in Tennessee. Mint chocolate chips are very hard to find here, but Laurie managed to score two bags.)

"Ovens On" time is 10:00 a.m. central time this Sunday.

We are introducing two technological improvements in Nashville this year:

- Streaming video - stay tuned for instructions on how to tune in to the CookieCam.

- Christmas music via iTunes - Laurie has created a playlist on her iPod, so there won't be any dead air time switching CDs.

Cookies in Cultural Anthropology

A friend of mine writes a great blog about exotic sweets. In a recent post, she suggests that a lot can be learned about a culture from its cookies:

"I'd argue for judging a culture by its cookies. Besides being more palatable, cookies are at least as revealing. Even simple things, like size, or variety, or shelf-life can lead to new understandings (or at least new questions) about how people within a group relate to one another."

Why doesn't the total count match up with the sum of the individual counts? Because we maintain two counts. The first count is number of cookies placed on the cookie table. Some of these cookies disappear (they get eaten) before the second count, which is the number of each type of cookie.
